The 90’s - possibly my favourite road cycling era, it brings heroic visions of Johan Museeuw, Frank Vandenbroucke, Andrea Tafi, Franco Ballerini - the breakaway artists of the Spring Classics; dressed like bags of screed, but somehow pulling it off...
The Mapei team were a force to be reckoned with, Classics specialists armed with legs of steel and my favourite bike of all time - the Colnago C40. Covered head-to-toe in the colourful cubes of team sponsor - Mapei (Italian building & decorating supplier), they tore apart the cobbles and the opposition.
Despite being one of the most iconic kits of all time… It lacks refinement, thankfully Rouleur collaborated with Johan Museeuw (3x winner of Paris Roubaix, 3x winner of the Tour of Flanders, former World Champion etc, etc.) to create the kit, as he is the ultimate definition of a Rouleur.
The Rouleur design team have reinterpreted Mapei’s geometric cubes into tasteful cross-hatching on the sleeves, a simple but clever way to reduce the colour proportions and retain the heart of the design, a stylish nod rather than a replica.
The Rouleur ‘R’ is stamped like a wax seal, a hallmark of quality, just like the publication.
The choice of fabrics, cut, heritage and style embody the true meaning of 'Rouleur' - Suffer in style, ahead of the pack. #RideLikeARouleur
