What this jersey means to me: WIGGINS Tour of Britain 2015

Sir Brad’s ‘What this jersey means to me’ series encouraged me to share my collection, so I’m kicking off with one of his.

Here’s my WIGGINS Tour of Britain 2015 jersey - Signed by Sir Bradley Wiggins, Andy Tennant, Owain Doull & Jon Dibben.

As sponsors, we (Sky) wanted to promote Sir Brad’s new team ‘WIGGINS’ - a development squad for young riders and a way to facilitate the training needs of the Olympic squad for Rio.

During the Edinburgh to Blythe stage of the TOB, Simon Cope invited me to join him in the team car.

Two memories come to mind...

Handing a bottle to Sir Brad like a complete chopper… I nearly threw the thing at him. FML.

Secondly, Brad riding alongside the car for a chat with Simon. It went something like this:

Simon: “Go and have a gallop Brad. Get Doull towards the front for the finish.”

Brad: “Okay.”

Minutes later, we were hoovering up riders.

Brad ‘spat’ half the peloton out the back and delivered Doull safely ‘in the mix’.

Armed with his Team Pursuit and Hour Record Legs, Brad was a lethal lead-out.

WIGGINS were the ‘people’s team’. Everyone came out to support Brad and the young-guns.

Owain Doull, Chris Lawless and John Dibben went on to join Team Sky, a success story for WIGGINS - developing young riders into the World Tour ranks.

Guy’s, thanks for signing my jersey and making me feel welcome and part of the team.

Stay tuned for my next heirloom: Johan Museeuw - Mapei World Champion Jersey.

Gareth.
